The C is for Chris and the J is for Jinx. I’m the author of The Excitements. If you’re thinking I look oddly familiar, it might be because you know me as Chrissie Manby, author of twenty-five novels including Three Days In Florence and the Proper Family series.
I grew up in Gloucester, in the west of England, a city famous for its hair-raising annual cheese-rolling contest and a cathedral that doubled as Hogwarts in several Harry Potter movies. Post-school, I studied Experiment Psychology at Oxford before moving to London, where I had a number of strange and wonderful jobs before becoming a full-time writer.
As well as being a novelist, I have worked as a screenwriter, a creative writing teacher, a columnist and a ghostwriter. It was working as a ghostwriter for a succession of fabulous nonagenarians that inspired me to explore WW2 and the enduring legacy of the ‘greatest generation’ in The Excitements. I hope you have as much fun reading my book as I had writing it. As my heroines Penny and Josephine would say, stay ‘Toujours gai!’
