It’s long been one of my fondest wishes to have a book featured in The New York Times and at last it’s happened! The Excitements was featured in a lovely summer historical fiction round-up by Alida Becker, who was editor at the Book Review for 30 years and was the first winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for excellence in reviewing. So I like to think she knows what she’s talking about when she describes The Excitements as ‘a wild adventure that belongs on the shelf with “Travels With My Aunt.’
